Reacting to the reports that Employees Joint Action Committee leaders including its president Ab Qayoom Wani have been jailed, Kashmir Economic Alliance Chairperson, Muhammad Yasin Khan said the ruling coalition was “setting scores with the employee union leaders while the traders continue to be  terrorised  by the forces”.

Condemning the arrests, Khan who also heads the Kashmir Traders and Manufactures Federation said: “It is a known fact that one of the ministers in the PDP BJP coalition, who is often ridiculed for his wicked wisdom had personal animosity with the employee union leaders particularly Qayoom Wani Sahib, who often resisted the sinister designs of the minister concerned.”

“It was unfortunate that the employee leaders who were staging peaceful protests against the use of pellet guns have they been booked by the government,” he said.

He sought immediate release of the EJAC leaders.

The KEA Chairperson said, “on the other hand, the traders continue to be at the receiving end.”

“Police and some leaders from the ruling PDP want to shops be kept open during daytime and by the time relaxation period as announced by the Hurriyat nears, police and paramilitary forces unleash a reign of terror threatening shopkeepers not to open shops,” he said adding even medicines and grocery including baby food sale is not allowed.

Khan sought the intervention of the resistance leadership including Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik into the matter.

Reiterating that traders were being “pushed to wall”, he sought intervention of the international community and the Indian civil society to see how the state and Union governments have “waged against the people of Kashmir”.
