At least 19 students from Kashmir Valley with serious pellet injuries in eyes have been admitted in the L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) Hyderabad, courtesy: Non-Governmental Organization – Help Foundation.

L V Prasad Eye Institute is a no-profit, non-government eye care institution located in Hyderabad city of South India.

“The hospital management is ready to treat up to 100 Kashmiri youth with serious pellet injuries in eyes free of cost. We are grateful to them and so far we have taken 19 eye-patients there who are undergoing treatment in the hospital,” Chairperson Help Foundation Nighat Shafi said adding that 8 more youth with serious eye-injuries will be flown to Hyderabad in coming few days.

Nighat Shafi said that they have to “convince” the families of these patients first.

“Only 27 families agreed to send their affected wards to Hyderabad. 19 have been admitted there while 8 more will be admitted in the hospital in coming few days,” she said adding, “all the boarding, lodging and other expenses are borne by the hospital while Help Foundation only bears the expenditure on air fares.”

She said that any family can contact them for help. “If anybody has suffered serious eye-injuries and needs help, he or she can contact our NGO. We will get him/her admitted in the Hyderabad hospital free of cost. It is the best eye-Institute and there is every possibility that all these patients may recover there,” she said and added that an attendant is allowed to accompany a patient.

The project director of the Help Foundation Ashiq Ali and volunteer Uzma Qureshi said that the process of admission at L V Prasad Eye Institute started from July 25 and so for 13 patients after getting treatment have returned to Kashmir Valley.
