Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of the militant attack at an Army Brigade Headquarters in Uri in which 17 army men were killed.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi, Defence Secretary G Mohan Kumar and other senior officials of Army and paramilitary forces briefed Rajnath on the prevailing situation in the state following the attack.
The Home Minister directed that forces should mount an all-out offensive against militants operating in the Valley, reports said.
Those who attended the meeting include chiefs of Intelligence Bureau, RA&W, Directors General of Military Operations and Military Intelligence.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi while expressing sympathies with the bereaved families tweeted that those responsible for Uri attack won’t go unpunished.
The Home Minister earlier postponed his visit to Russia and the US in the wake of the deadly militant attack in Uri and the continuing massive civil uprising in the Kashmir Valley for more than two months after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani on 8 July.
Meanwhile, Indian Army chief Gen Dalbir Singh arrived in Srinagar on Sunday afternoon on his way to the army camp in Uri where militants killed 17 army men early in the morning.
Gen Singh will take stock of the security situation at army installations and camps near the Line of Control (LoC).
Later in the day, defence minister Manohar Parrikar is expected to reach Srinagar to take stock of the situation.
