As soon as the mandatory Friday prayers ended in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district headquarter, forces resorted to tear gas shelling to foil a scheduled pro-freedom rally.
Local sources said that locals of Bandipora had planned a pro-freedom rally today, however, a huge deployment of CRPF and police men had been made in the area.
“People held pro-freedom protests after coming out of main Jamia Masjid Bandipora,” reports said, “but forces resorted to intense shelling creating fear psychosis.”
The reports said that people tried to defy the forces actions but to no avail.
“They fired pellets and tear gas shells and people ran for cover,” an eye witness said, “at least two civilians sustained minor injuries.”

“People have blocked major roads in Bandipora in order to stop forces from entering homes and evade arrests,” a local said.
Notably, over 13000 civilians were injured by men in uniform while at least 88 others were killed during the current anti-India uprising in Kashmir triggered by the death of popular militant commander Burhan Wani on July 08, 2016.
Pellets have created havoc in valley as more than 100 people have been rendered blind while at least nine others were killed.
Meanwhile, reports coming from Srinagar’s Batamaloo said that scores of women took out a pro-freedom rally after Friday prayers.
“The women held pro-freedom protests in Danderkhah but CRPF and police men stopped them from marching further,” a local said.
