Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, has deeply condoled the sad demise of veteran journalist and Chairman, KT Group of Publications, Ved Bhasin, who passed away late last night in the winter capital.

A distinguished journalist and an intellectual par excellence, Ved Bhasin was not keeping good health for quite some time and was put on life support system for the last few days.

In his condolence message, Mufti Sayeed described the death of Ved Bhasin as a huge personal loss, adding he had been his close associate for decades. “Ved Saab was a personal companion, whose friendship I always cherished. The void left behind by him will be very difficult to fill,” he added.

Paying glowing tributes to the pioneer of English journalism in the state, the Chief Minister said Ved Saab was a fearless crusader who will be best remembered for his never-say-die attitude, which is aptly reflected through his writings and the newspaper, which he ably edited for such a long time. “His contribution to print media has been phenomenal. People from all sections of life will continue to admire Ved Bhasin for his courageous writings,” he added.

After his initial foray into Urdu journalism in 1949, Ved Bhasin started Kashmir Times in 1955. Side-by-side, he continued to play a prominent role in promotion of art and culture and was member of various literary and cultural organisations.

The Chief Minister expressed his solidarity with the bereaved family members, including daughters, Dr Anju Bhasin and Anuradha Bhasin, and son-in-law, Prabodh Jamwal, on such an irreparable loss. He also prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
