DPS Srinagar Marks 23rd Founders’ Day with Cultural Performances, Academic Honours

   

SRINAGAR: Delhi Public School Srinagar celebrated its 23rd Founders’ Day on Saturday with a grand function at the school’s Indoor Stadium, commemorating the legacy of founder Durga Prasad Dhar and highlighting the institution’s achievements in academics, sports, and inclusive education.

The event began with a traditional Entry Izband welcome and morning prayer, followed by tributes to the late D.P. Dhar and reflections on the school’s journey as a centre of educational excellence in Kashmir. Speakers also acknowledged the contribution of Vijay Dhar and Kiran Dhar in strengthening the institution over the years.

Students presented a series of cultural and artistic performances during the celebrations. A music mashup by students of Classes 11 and 12, led by Aisha and her group, drew applause from the audience, while students of the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) performed a hula hoop dance showcasing the school’s emphasis on inclusive education for specially-abled students.

Grade 4 students staged a performance on Habba Khatoon, while Grade 8 students presented a cultural dance depicting the traditions and heritage of Kashmir.

The occasion also witnessed felicitation ceremonies for outstanding achievements in sports and academics. Students Tarahum Sadiya and Mehran Zargar were honoured for receiving the Kiran Dhar Sports Scholarship. The school also recognised students who scored above 95 per cent in the CBSE Grade X Examinations 2025–26.

Two visually impaired students of the Learning Resource Centre, Zainab Bilal and Rafees Rafiq, were felicitated for successfully passing the CBSE Grade X Examination with distinction. Staff members who completed 20 years of service at the institution were also honoured during the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Chairman Vijay Dhar said the institution was established with the aim of creating opportunities for Kashmiri youth and providing them with a platform to realise their potential.

Principal Shafaq Afshan said Founders’ Day reflected the institution’s commitment to education that promotes inquiry, resilience, empathy, and service beyond conventional classroom learning.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks followed by a post-event interaction and tea gathering attended by guests, staff members, and parents.
