SRINAGAR: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Wednesday directed officials to ensure that all pending works at the SKIMS Medical College and Hospital Bemina, including the 250-bedded IPD block and College Laboratory block, are completed within three months.
During an extensive inspection visit to the site, the Deputy CM reviewed the progress of the major infrastructure projects, which are being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 83.94 crore and Rs 88.23 crore, respectively. The visit aimed to assess both the pace and quality of ongoing construction activities meant to upgrade medical facilities at the institution.
Highlighting the importance of strengthening health infrastructure, Choudhary emphasised strict adherence to the project timelines and quality standards. “No further delay will be tolerated,” he asserted, instructing the executing agencies to remove any bottlenecks hampering progress.
The proposed IPD block will be a seven-storey structure housing wards for Orthopaedics, Medicine, Psychiatry, Labour, Obstetrics, and General Surgery. It will also include an administrative unit, medical record section, board room, and lecture theatre.
Choudhary called for regular monitoring and evaluation of the works to ensure transparency, accountability, and timely completion. He stressed the need for coordination between departments to prevent further delays.
The inspection was attended by Director SKIMS Prof Mohammad Ashraf Ganai, Principal MCH Bemina Dr Fazal Kadir Parray, Chief Engineer R&B Sajad Naqeeb, CE MED Kashmir Bodh Raj, along with senior doctors and staff.
