SRINAGAR: In the run-up to the upcoming festivities, banks across the region have witnessed a sharp surge in activity, with Jammu and Kashmir Bank reporting over Rs 8,393 crore in non-branch transactions over three days from March 16 to March 19, 2026.

Eid is being celebrated on Saturday as no crescent was reportedly seen anywhere in the region.
Data released by the bank shows that a total of 5.94 crore transactions were carried out across digital and self-service channels, underlining the growing reliance on non-branch banking modes during peak spending periods.
Unified Payments Interface (UPI) emerged as the most active channel, recording 4.00 crore transactions amounting to Rs 3,125 crore. The bank’s mobile banking platform, mPay, followed with 1.70 crore transactions worth Rs 2,991.70 crore, indicating strong adoption of app-based banking services among customers.
ATM transactions stood at 15.50 lakh, with a total value of Rs 658.57 crore, while eBanking channels registered 83,641 transactions amounting to Rs 1,466 crore. Kiosk banking also contributed with 65,952 transactions valued at Rs 152.61 crore.
Officials said the spike in transactions is consistent with seasonal trends, as customers increase spending and financial activity ahead of festivals. The figures also reflect the bank’s continued digital penetration in the region, where it accounts for a significant share of credit and deposits.
The data highlights a clear shift towards digital platforms, with UPI and mobile banking collectively accounting for the overwhelming majority of transactions, both in volume and value.
Banking activity is expected to remain elevated in the coming days as festive demand continues to drive consumer spending across Jammu and Kashmir. Interestingly, the bank remained closed on Thursday as part of a public holiday but is most likely to reopen on Friday, the last day of the Muslim month of fasting.
