SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Party President Dr Farooq Abdullah Tuesday condemned the heinous killing of a Naib Imam inside a Masjid in Haryana and said the government should take immediate action to ensure that the situation is brought under control.
Expressing concern over the communal tensions, that have resulted in the loss of lives and damage to the Mosque in Mewat Haryana, Dr Farooq said, “This was not an isolated incident, as the other day, a RPF constable killed three Muslims and his senior on a train. I am completely numb to what has happened. The country cannot progress amidst such incidents.”
On the Haryana communal riots, he said, “The situation could have been averted had the government taken decisive action against the miscreants, who have been campaigning against Friday prayers in Gurugram and other adjoining places in Haryana. It’s the ruling dispensation at centre and state that is to be blamed for its complicit damaging of the pluralistic visage of our country.”
Calling for peace, Dr Farooq said, “I appeal to all the people to maintain peace in the trouble-torn region of the Haryana state. I also urge the concerned state government to bring the perpetrators to book. Strictest action should be taken against those involved in the killing of masjid Imam and burning the masjid building.”
Meanwhile, the Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) while condemning the communal violence in the Mewat region of Haryana, said that the state government by its acts of omission and commission is responsible and complicit in the developments.
“On the pretext of holding a Braj Mandal Yatra, the Hindutva forces – Bajrang Dal and Viswa Hindu Parishad unleashed a highly provocative campaign on social media. A notorious individual Monu Manesar named in the lynching of Nasir and Junaid gave an open call to his supporters to join the Yatra,” it said. “The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) unambiguously condemns this organized attempt with the singular purpose of sharpening communal polarization with an eye on the coming elections.”
