SRINAGAR:  The Jammu and Kashmir Fee Fixation and Regulation Committee (FFRC) has issued a circular warning private schools against charging admission fees in violation of the Jammu and Kashmir School Education Act 2002.

In an order, FFRC Chairperson Justice (Retd) Sunil Hali asked schools not to charge admission fee in violation of statute

The order states that the Act prohibits private schools from charging any fee other than tuition fees, annual fees, transport fees, and voluntary special purpose fees such as picnics, tours, and excursions. It also states that private schools cannot charge any other fee, including admission fees, by whatever name it is called.

The statement reads, “FFRC has received complaints that many private schools are charging admission fees in violation of the Act. If a school is found to be charging admission fees, it will be deemed to have charged the fee to all students admitted and action will be taken against the school management. This action may include de-recognition or disaffiliation.”

“If a school denies charging admission fees but is later found to have done so, the matter will be referred to the CBI for investigation. If the CBI finds that the school has indeed charged admission fees, action will be taken against the school management, which may include de-recognition or disaffiliation,” the order further reads.
