Firecracker Ban in Baramulla’s Densely Populated Areas

SRINAGAR: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district have imposed a temporary ban on the bursting of firecrackers in densely populated areas from June 6 to June 9, 2025, ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha celebrations. The order has been issued by District Magistrate Minga Sherpa (IAS) under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS).

The directive comes in response to an application submitted by the General Secretary of Auqaf Islamia Khanpora, who highlighted growing concerns over health hazards, environmental degradation, and fire risks associated with firecracker use—particularly in the Khanpora locality of Baramulla town.

Citing these dangers, the District Magistrate stated that the matter had been reviewed and warranted preventive action to mitigate potential harm to public health, safety, and property. “The concerns raised in the application were looked into and were considered for taking necessary action in the matter to avoid adverse impact on health, environment and to safeguard life and property,” the order noted.

“In exercise of the powers vested in me under Section 163 BNSS, I hereby prohibit the bursting of fireworks/crackers by any individual(s) in and around the densely populated areas of District Baramulla from June 6 to June 9, 2025,” the order reads.

All Executive Magistrates and the District Police have been directed to ensure strict enforcement of the ban. The order further mandates legal action against violators in accordance with existing laws.
