SRINAGAR: A court in South Kashmir’s Kulgam has convicted four individuals in a narcotics case and sentenced them to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1,00,000 each.
“The Principal Sessions Judge Kulgam delivered the judgment on 23 January 2025, followed by the quantum of punishment on 8 February 2025. The convicted individuals—Mohd Aslam War of Arwani Bijebhara, Mehraj-ud-Din Wani of Nowpora Kharpora, Waqar Ahmad Dar of Padshahi Bagh Srinagar, and Bilal Ahmad Hanji of Kharpora—were found guilty under Sections 8/20, 8/22 read with Section 29 of the NDPS Act in connection with FIR No. 21/2021 of Police Station Yaripora,” a police spokesperson in a statement said.
The accused were arrested on April 26 2021 during a naka checking by police at Kharpora near a playground. “A search led to the recovery of 100 ml of contraband in 36 unlabelled bottles, six labelled bottles of Cocax-Dx, and two polythene bags containing 130 grams of Charas.”
The prosecution presented multiple witnesses and documentary evidence to substantiate the charges. After reviewing the case, the court found the accused guilty and pronounced the sentence.
