SRINAGAR: The higher reaches of Kashmir Valley received fresh snowfall, while plains were lashed by rains on Friday, bringing down temperatures across the region.
Light snowfall was recorded in the higher reaches of Gurez Valley, Sonamarg, Gulmarg, Sinthan Top, Pir Ki Gali, and other areas.
Gurez received 4 inches of snow, while Sonamarg recorded 8 inches. Sinthan Top and Pir Ki Gali each saw 3 inches of accumulation. Light snowfall was also reported from DK Marg, Noorabad Kulgam, and Baltal Pahalgam.
Snowfall continued in Gulmarg and nearby areas when this report was filed.
Meanwhile, the plains, including Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, experienced rainfall, leading to a drop in mercury levels. Below-normal temperatures were recorded at Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Qazigund, and Kokernag.
According to the Director of the Meteorological Department, more snow is expected in the next 24 hours. Light rain and snow may occur at scattered places from Friday evening until the morning or forenoon of February 1.
On February 2, partly to generally cloudy weather is expected, while February 3 may see generally cloudy conditions towards the evening, with the possibility of light rain or snow at isolated places.
For February 4, there is a likelihood of light to moderate rain and snow at many places, followed by light rain and snow at scattered places on the morning of February 5. The weather is expected to remain generally cloudy from February 6 to 8.
The MeT Department has advised tourists, travelers, and transporters to follow administrative and traffic advisories. (KNO)
