SRINAGAR: A fresh spell of rain and thunderstorms is expected to affect Jammu and Kashmir from Thursday, with heavy rainfall forecast at isolated places over the next four days, the Meteorological Centre Srinagar said.
The forecast comes after rain and thundershowers lashed several parts of the Union Territory on Wednesday evening, with brief but intense spells triggering localised flash floods, mudslides and landslides in some areas.
Heavy showers were reported from Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, Katra, Doda, Udhampur, Batote and parts of Ramban, disrupting normal life in several areas of the Jammu region. Parts of Kupwara district in north Kashmir also witnessed rain and thundershowers.
According to the latest forecast, widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely across Jammu and Kashmir on July 9 and 10, with intense showers expected at a few places.
The weather office said July 11 and 12 are likely to witness one or two spells of rain and thunderstorms at many places, while isolated locations may receive heavy rainfall.
The MeT Department has advised people to remain vigilant, particularly in vulnerable areas, warning that intense rainfall could trigger flash floods, landslides, mudslides and shooting stones in hilly and mountainous regions. Low-lying areas may also experience waterlogging during heavy rain.
Authorities have urged commuters, tourists and residents to follow official weather advisories and avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable areas during periods of intense rainfall.
