Global Leaders Condemn Pahalgam Terror Attack, Express Solidarity with India

   

SRINAGAR: The terror attack in Pahalgam, which left 26 people dead, most of them tourists, has sparked international outrage and a wave of condolences from world leaders. The attack, described as the deadliest since Pulwama, has drawn condemnation from allies and global partners, with leaders reaffirming support for India in its fight against terrorism.

US President Donald Trump, posting on Truth Social, called the incident “deeply disturbing” and said, “The United States stands strong with India against terrorism. We pray for the souls of those lost, and for the recovery of the injured. Prime Minister Modi, and the incredible people of India, have our full support and deepest sympathies.” The White House confirmed that Trump would speak with Prime Minister Modi to convey his condolences personally.

The US State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs also denounced the attack, stating on X, “Nothing can justify such a heinous act killing tourists and civilians. Our thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones. We continue to monitor the situation and call for perpetrators to be held accountable.” US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz called it a “terrible tragedy” and urged prayers for the victims and their families.

World leaders have echoed similar sentiments. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni wrote on X, “Deeply saddened by the terrorist attack that occurred today in India, which caused numerous victims. Italy expresses its closeness to the families affected, the injured, the Government and all the Indian people.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin also sent a message of condolence to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi, calling the attack a “brutal crime” with “no justification whatsoever.” In a statement from the Russian Embassy, Putin emphasised Moscow’s commitment to deepen counterterrorism cooperation with India and extended sympathy to the families of the victims and wishes for the injured to recover swiftly.

The incident prompted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to delay scheduled talks during his visit to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where he co-chaired the Strategic Partnership Council with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The two leaders condemned the attack and reaffirmed their shared commitment to regional security and the fight against terrorism. Modi is reported to have cut short his Saudi trip in response to the attack.

The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that both leaders discussed the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman expressing deep sorrow and solidarity with the Indian people during this period of national grief.
