SRINAGAR: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the Police Control Room (PCR) in Srinagar on Wednesday morning to pay tributes to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.
They offered floral tributes to the mortal remains of the deceased, which had been brought to the PCR following medico-legal formalities.
Following the visit, Home Minister Amit Shah, accompanied by LG Sinha, proceeded to Baisaran in Pahalgam, where militants had opened fire on a group of civilians—mainly tourists—on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of 26 people and injuries to several others.
Security has been intensified across the Kashmir Valley, particularly in south Kashmir. Aerial surveillance, drone monitoring, and extensive deployment of security forces have been implemented to prevent further incidents.
A complete shutdown is being observed across Kashmir, with all shops, educational institutions, and commercial establishments closed. Roads remained deserted in major towns and cities, including Srinagar, as residents mourn the loss.
Officials said a high-level review meeting, chaired by Amit Shah on Tuesday night, focused on operational strategies and intelligence gaps. Senior officials from the Army, CRPF, JK Police, and intelligence agencies attended the meeting.
In Lal Chowk, Srinagar’s commercial centre, locals described the situation as resembling a curfew. “There is an eerie silence. Even essential services have been affected,” a resident said.
The visit of the senior leadership to the PCR is being regarded as a gesture of solidarity with the victims and their families, as Kashmir grapples with one of the deadliest civilian attacks in recent years. (JKNS)
