While chairing the 73rd meeting of the university council, Governor,  N N Vohra,  who is also the chancellor of the state universities, stressed that high priority needs to be accorded to those courses which have a higher employment potential in the existing and emerging job markets. He said the students passing out from universities and other institutions of higher learning should not have to wait indefinitely to get placements.

Governor observed that all the necessary measures must be taken to strengthen the monitoring mechanisms of the Universities for ensuring that quality education is provided in their affiliated colleges as well as at the varsity campuses. The meeting was held at Raj Bhavan on Thursday and he also said in the meeting, “this is imperative to adequately equip our youth with knowledge and skills to successfully compete with their counterparts at the national and international levels”. He also reiterated the usefulness of organizing short-term vocational courses.

Chancellor suggested to the Vice Chancellors to consider drawing up of at least a 5-year profile of the expected inflow of resources and the likely expenditures, per annum, and based on such assessments to evolve well considered plans for the introduction of new courses. This would, he observed, secure the harmonious growth of the varsities. He added that Action Plans should be drawn up and implemented for filling the gaps relating to faculty and physical infrastructure which will move forward for securing the envisaged educational goals.

While referring to the report of the Enquiry Committee which had been set up by the State Government two years ago, the Council stressed time-bound conclusive action on each of the recommendations therein.
