SRINAGAR: Security forces have launched a large-scale search operation in the dense forests of Bandipora’s Panar area in North Kashmir after suspected militants opened fire on troops, the Indian Army reported.
The incident occurred on the evening of November, when alert soldiers detected suspicious movement in the forested region. Upon challenging the suspects, the armed individuals opened indiscriminate fire on the troops before fleeing into the jungle.
The Army’s Chinar Corps shared details of the incident on X (formerly Twitter), noting that troops responded swiftly to the surprise assault. Following the exchange, additional forces were mobilised to support a comprehensive search operation to locate the suspects.
Security forces, including the Army, police, and paramilitary personnel, are working together to cover the rugged terrain, utilising enhanced resources and manpower to intensify search efforts. During the operation, two pithu bags, commonly used by terrorists to carry supplies, were recovered, suggesting the possible presence of armed insurgents in the area.
The Army has advised residents of nearby villages to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, emphasising the crucial role of community support in ongoing anti-terrorism efforts.
“The current operation aligns with broader efforts to eliminate terrorist activity in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in areas where militants are suspected to be using forested regions as hideouts,” sources in the Army reported. (KINS)
