SRINAGAR: Heavy rain and snowfall across Jammu and Kashmir over the past 24 hours have disrupted road, air, and rail travel, causing significant inconvenience to commuters. Several key highways, including the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), remain blocked due to snow accumulation, landslides, and shooting stones.
According to data compiled by Kashmir Weather, Udhampur recorded the highest rainfall in the region with 215.4 mm, followed by Batote with 163.7 mm and Katra with 118.6 mm. In Kashmir, Kokernag received the highest rainfall at 67.2 mm, followed by Gulmarg with 58.2 mm and Qazigund with 53.2 mm.
Srinagar recorded 30.5 mm of rain, while Qazigund received 53.2 mm. Pahalgam saw 46.6 mm, Kupwara 33.5 mm, and Kokernag the highest at 67.2 mm. Gulmarg received 58.2 mm, while Sopore recorded 35.4 mm. Other significant figures include Pampore with 26.0 mm, Bandipora with 27.0 mm, Anantnag with 24.0 mm, and Verinag with 45.0 mm. Tangmarg recorded 30.2 mm, Nowgam Handwara 28.4 mm, and Lolab 31.2 mm.
Jammu recorded 77.4 mm of rain, while Banihal received 100.4 mm. Batote had the highest rainfall in the region at 163.7 mm, followed by Udhampur with 215.4 mm and Katra with 118.6 mm. Ramban saw 85.0 mm, Reasi 88.0 mm, and Rajouri 73.0 mm. Bhaderwah received 72.0 mm, while Kathua recorded 73.2 mm. Poonch saw 34.0 mm, Samba 61.0 mm, and Burmal 86.0 mm. Leh recorded 10.0 mm of precipitation, while data for Kargil and Drass remains unavailable.
The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remains impassable due to snow between Ramsoo and Qazigund, while landslides at Nashri and the NAVYUG Tunnel have worsened the situation. The Batote-Doda road has also been shut following a landslide at Ragi Nalla. Other major routes, including the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) Road, Bhaderwah-Chamba Road, Mughal Road, and Sinthan Road, remain closed due to adverse weather.
Flight operations at Srinagar International Airport were affected on Friday morning, with all scheduled flights facing delays due to poor weather conditions. Director Airport Javed Anjum confirmed that passengers have been advised to stay updated on rescheduled departures.
Train services in Kashmir have also been impacted. While the Budgam-Banihal section is operational, services in the Baramulla section are running late due to heavy snow accumulation.
Authorities have urged travellers to check for updates before undertaking journeys and advised caution in the wake of continuing inclement weather.
