SRINAGAR: In a display of spiritual devotion, over 1000 Muslims are participating in Itikaf at Darul Uloom Raheemiya, the biggest Islamic seminary in the Bandipora district of Kashmir.

Notably, Itikaf takes place during the last 10 days of Ramadan when worshippers seclude themselves and devote their time to prayer, supplication, and reading the Quran. It starts from the sunset of the 20th day of Ramadan and ends when the Eid moon is sighted. During Itikaf, worshippers live and sleep in mosques.

The management at the seminary said that around 1000 individuals, including both youth and elderly from various parts of the valley, are observing Itikaaf this Ramadan. Approximately 250 food plates (Traamis) are being served daily, covering both Sehri (pre-dawn meals) and Iftaar (breaking of fast).

In addition to those performing Itikaaf, a large number of locals join for prayers and a grand Iftaar on a daily basis.

It is worth mentioning that during last Ramadan, over 600 men observed Itikaaf at this Islamic seminary. Over the years, the seminary has become a popular destination for people from both the valley and outsiders. (KNO)
