SRINAGAR: Jammu Police registered 374 cases and arrested 407 individuals involved in bovine smuggling under Operation Kamdhenu in 2024. The Rural Zone of Jammu District alone accounted for 333 FIRs, 3014 rescued bovines, and 352 arrests. This comprehensive operation also led to the seizure of 349 vehicles across the district and eight Public Safety Act (PSA) cases against habitual offenders.
As part of its action, Jammu Police has recovered Rs 8,32,752 in care and cost charges from the accused through court orders. Notably, history sheets have been opened for notorious smugglers, and the registration certificates, route permits, and licenses of vehicles repeatedly involved in smuggling have been cancelled. A detailed offender database has been established to bolster future enforcement measures.
With continued vigilance, Operation Kamdhenu remains a cornerstone of Jammu Police’s strategy to ensure animal safety, a statement issued by the Jammu Police on its Facebook page said, adding it will uphold public trust, and address community concerns. The operation will carry on with the same determination to protect both animals and the region’s values in the future, it added.
