The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), in a notification issued on May 13, said the export policy for raw sugar, white sugar and refined sugar has been revised from “restricted” to “prohibited”.
However, the restriction will not apply to sugar exports to the European Union and the United States under the tariff rate quota arrangement. It also exempts shipments under the advance authorisation scheme, government-to-government agreements, and consignments that are already in the export pipeline.
The DGFT stated that the decision takes immediate effect, subject to the specified exemptions.
