Pakistan army has confirmed to the local media that India has fired missiles from its own airspace and they have landed in three Pakistani areas. “India attacks Pakistan in three locations with missiles – Pakistan military spokesman tells local media,” Turkish TV TRT has confirmed on its Twitter handle.

“Multiple loud explosions were heard in the area close to the mountains around the city of Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir after midnight on Tuesday, Reuters reported,” Hindustan Times reported on its website. “According to the report, the city’s power was blacked out after the explosions. It was not immediately clear what the explosions were.” The website added: “A Pakistani military spokesperson accused India of carrying out missile attacks on three locations, telling local ARY News that Islamabad will respond to them. New Delhi has not responded to the incident yet.”

Press Information Bureau has issued a short press note saying the Indian army has launched Operation Sandoor targeting nine spots. Here is the text of the statement issued by the PIB:

“A little while ago, the Indian Armed Forces launched ‘OPERATION SINDOOR’, hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed.

Altogether, nine (9) sites have been targeted.

Our actions have been focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted. India has demonstrated considerable restraint in the election of targets and the method of execution.

These steps come in the wake of the barbaric Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen were murdered. We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for this attack will be held accountable.

There will be a detailed briefing on SINDOOR’, later today.”

“Explosions were heard early Wednesday in the capital of Pakistan-administered Kashmir, residents said, two weeks after India vowed to retaliate against Pakistan over a terrorist attack that killed more than two dozen civilians,” The New York Times reported. “They said that a site in a rural area near Muzaffarabad that was once used by Lashkar-e-Taiba, a militant group based in Pakistan, appeared to have been targeted in the strikes.” The newspaper added: “A spokesman for the Pakistani Army said that two other places had also come under attack. One was Bahawalpur, in Punjab Province, the site of a religious seminary associated with Jaish-e-Mohammad, another Pakistan-based militant group; and the other was Kotli, a city in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.”
