SRINAGAR: India is now seen as the new powerhouse of champions, said Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who attended the closing ceremony of the 67th National School Games.

The event took place in Jammu, where the Lt Governor inaugurated the Synthetic Athletic track at the University of Jammu and addressed participants in Judo Under-14 Boys & Girls and Fencing Under-19 Boys & Girls.

In his address, Sinha congratulated the emerging sporting talents for their outstanding performance across various disciplines. He emphasised the significance of the National School Games as a crucial platform for nurturing young athletes, launching them into a journey that opens doors to numerous opportunities and excellence in international sporting events.

Sinha shared the motivational mantra of success, emphasising that those who aspire to win should never quit. He highlighted the role of school games in identifying and nurturing the talents of legendary sports icons, emphasising the importance of proper training and mentoring in achieving success.

Pointing to the recent achievements of Indian athletes in events like the Asian Games, Asian Para Games, and Asian Para Archery Games, Lt Governor Sinha attributed the success to a new sports culture guided by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. India is now recognized as a new powerhouse of champions in the world of sports.

Encouraging young players, Lt Governor Sinha urged them to work hard, transform their inherent talent, and set new goals daily to fulfil their destinies. He emphasized the uniqueness of each player and the importance of recognizing and leveraging their individual talents to reach the pinnacle of success.

Lt Governor Sinha underscored the significance of goals in defining athletes, with motivation, confidence, and proper training serving as crucial allies in achieving these goals. He acknowledged the nation’s commitment to sports through adequate infrastructure, and modern training facilities, and emphasized that these elements are foundational to building a new India in the sporting arena.

During the closing ceremony, Lt Governor Sinha highlighted the efforts of the UT Administration to promote a robust sports culture in Jammu Kashmir. He mentioned the implementation of a new sports policy, the provision of world-class facilities, and the mentoring of sportspersons as key contributors to creating an environment conducive to excelling and bringing laurels to the UT and the nation in international tournaments.

The event was attended by Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor; Dr Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary; Sarmad Hafeez, Secretary Youth Services and Sports, along with senior officials, officers, representatives of the School Games Federation of India, eminent sports personalities, coaches, and a large number of youth.
