SRINAGAR: India witnessed a rise of 276 active Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing the total active caseload to 4,302, according to data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India Today reported.
Seven deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours, with Maharashtra accounting for four. Tamil Nadu, Delhi, and Gujarat each reported one fatality, pushing the cumulative death toll to 44 in the current phase of the outbreak.
Gujarat and Delhi reported the highest number of new infections, with 64 cases each. Uttar Pradesh followed with 63 cases, while West Bengal recorded 60. Kerala continues to report the highest number of active cases, followed by Maharashtra (510), Gujarat (461), and Delhi (457). Arunachal Pradesh remains the only state with no reported cases to date.
Commenting on the rise in infections, Dr Arindam Biswas from Kolkata told India Today, “Covid is here to stay. The number of cases will continue to rise and fall over time, but there’s no need for panic. What’s important is to prevent its spread. People must follow government guidelines and wear masks to stay protected.”
In response to the increasing numbers, the Kerala health department has issued fresh directives to both government and private hospitals. State authorities have ordered mock drills to assess preparedness and ensure that institutions are equipped to handle Covid-related cases. Hospitals have been instructed to follow the Revised ABC Guidelines 03, introduced in June 2023, for managing patients with Covid-19 and influenza-like symptoms.
In Jammu and Kashmir, there are nine active cases.
