Mirwaiz-Umar-FarooqTerming the holy month of Ramzan as a means to practice piousness and control cravings, Hurriyat Conference (m) chairperson and Jammu Kashmir Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema Chief, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Thursday said while this month provides an opportunity to come close to Allah, seek repentance and blessings, it also teaches us to be kind towards the people and help the poor and destitute.

Delivering a lecture before the Asr prayers at Dastgeer Sahab shrine at Khanyar on the last day of the first “ten days of mercy’ of Ramzan, which also marks the death anniversary of Umul Moomineen Hazrat Khadijah (RA), Mirwaiz said Islam is the only religion which lays emphasis on providing equitable rights to women besides the men.

However, he said despite elaborate explanations on the subject, women rights in general, and their property rights and especially share from their parental property in particular were being ignored.

Urging women not to remain silent and seek their rights, Mirwaiz said respecting these rights in view of the Quranic injunction was a necessity for every Muslim.

Paying glowing tributes to Hazrat Khadija-tul-Qubra (RA) on her passing away anniversary, he recalled her services to the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and contributions to Islam and said that she had sacrificed everything in the path of Almighty Allah and written a golden chapter in the history of Islam.

Shedding light on the life and times of Hazrat Khadija-tul-Qubra (RA), Mirwaiz said she had stood side-by-side with Prophet Muhammad (SAW) when the entire world had become his enemy.

He said from the time of announcement of prophet-hood to the time of migration to Shib Abi Talib, Hazrat Khadija-tul-Qubra (RA) not only stood strong with Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in his every endeavor but also helped the cause of Islam making the Muslims indebted to her forever.

Terming the ongoing month of Ramzan as a gift of the Almighty Allah to the Muslims, the APHC (m) Chairperson said the month was not only meant to fast from dawn to dusk but also to imbibe the true spirit of fasting in the lives by remaining steadfast and controlling one’s desires and helping improve the social setup by removing the existent social ills from the society.

He also urged the people to take care of the poor and destitute and only then would they fulfill the true spirit of Ramadan.
