Jammu and Kashmir Government Identifies Land for Satellite Towns, DPRs Underway

   

JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced plans to establish satellite towns in Jammu, with land parcels identified across multiple districts. The Housing and Urban Development Department stated that the mode of execution is being finalised, and Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) are being formulated.

According to official data, a total of approximately 1,298.28 kanals (65.66 hectares) of land has been earmarked for these projects. A mass housing colony is planned at Padgampura in Pulwama over 30 kanals (1.52 hectares). In Bandipora, an integrated mass housing colony will be developed at Watapora across 200 kanals (10.11 hectares). At Bhalwal in Jammu, flatted accommodation is set to be constructed over 85 kanals (4.30 hectares). Another flatted and plotted accommodation project is planned at Changran in Kathua, spanning 81.48 kanals (4.12 hectares). A housing colony is proposed at Chatterhama in Srinagar, covering 353.35 kanals (17.88 hectares), while at Bakoora in Ganderbal, a similar project will be developed on 214 kanals (10.82 hectares). In Jammu, housing colonies will be developed at Chak Bhalwal on 248.65 kanals (12.58 hectares) and at Chowadhi on 69 kanals (3.49 hectares). Another housing project is planned at Kanuvian in Poonch over 16.80 kanals (0.84 hectares).

Additionally, the Srinagar Development Authority has identified 3,000 kanals of state land along the National Highway Bypass at Bemina, in the Rakhi Gund Aksha area, for further housing expansion. The government has stated that the financial and physical status of these projects is being finalised, and work will commence once the DPRs are completed.
