SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir recorded a total of 212 convictions for drug trafficking between 2018 and 2022, according to the latest data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). The figures indicate fluctuations over the years, with 2022 witnessing the highest number of convictions at 84, significantly surpassing the previous four years.

In 2018, the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, including Ladakh, reported 29 convictions under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The number saw a sharp increase to 69 in 2019, before dropping to 13 in 2020. In 2021, the conviction count slightly improved to 17 before reaching 84 in 2022.
Meanwhile, Ladakh, which became a separate Union Territory in 2019, reported no convictions in 2020 and 2021. However, in 2022, two convictions were recorded under the NDPS Act.
