Jammu Kashmir Assembly Adjourned Indefinitely as Budget Session Concludes

   

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was adjourned indefinitely on Saturday, bringing the two-phase Budget Session to a close.

The session initially commenced on February 2 in Jammu and continued until February 20, before taking a break for Ramadan and Eid. Proceedings resumed on March 27, focusing on the passage of the budget and other legislative business, and concluded on April 4.

Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather reported that the session comprised 22 sittings, with the House functioning for a total of 11 hours and 36 minutes. During the session, eight government bills were introduced and all were passed, while 25 papers were presented before the House. On private members’ business, 39 bills were received, of which 36 were admitted, three disallowed, and two introduced.

A total of 1,379 questions were listed, with 144 disallowed, two withdrawn, and three not listed. The House also received 110 calling attention notices. Regarding resolutions, 138 were submitted, 27 disallowed, 14 listed, and four taken up, with two discussed. Additionally, 2,231 cut motions were received, of which 2,059 were allowed.

The Speaker appreciated the participation of members and ministers, highlighting the Chief Minister’s active involvement. He also acknowledged the support of the Chief Secretary, administrative secretaries, media, the home department, police, and Assembly staff for ensuring smooth proceedings.

The sessions, held alternately in Srinagar and Jammu, witnessed significant legislative activity. This included private member bills on restricting land access to non-locals, bills concerning civil courts, and anti-discrimination legislation, reflecting a renewed focus on legislative business after a prolonged hiatus.
