SRINAGAR: BJP legislators were marshalled out of the Kashmir Assembly on day five after they continued protesting by entering the well of the house.
The Speaker instructed, “Throw them out,” after ordering the removal of Sheikh Khursheed, MLA Langate.
The Speaker enforced strict discipline, barring members from leaving their seats to disrupt proceedings. Despite this, BJP members remained standing, chanting slogans for most of the session.
Nearly 12 BJP MLAs were escorted out, with Speaker instructing marshals to keep them from re-entering. Meanwhile, the remaining 11 BJP legislators walked out in protest.
The session featured a long speech by Baramulla MLA Javed Hussain Baig, discussing Jammu and Kashmir’s accession history and the people’s grievances. Baig Criticised Opposition Parties, Including PDP and People’s Conference, in his speech.
MLA Thanamandi Muzaffar Iqbal Khan was the second speaker to address the motion of thanks. He expressed regret, emphasising that the assembly, once India’s most empowered legislative body, has now been stripped of much of its authority.
“Supreme Court has never declared Article 370 as unconstitutional. It was a solemn pledge by India’s Constituent Assembly to Jammu and Kashmir, and now questioning it challenges many foundational promises. The nation had assured respectful treatment for Jammu and Kashmir, but what exists now is suppression, not peace,” he said.
MLA Bandipora Nizamuddin Bhat criticised the BJP’ over recent events, specifically those that occurred in the past three days of Assembly. He called on the Prime Minister and said that both the Supreme Court and the Election Commission granted permission to serve the public.
However, he claimed that the BJP is disrespecting the parliamentary process and trying to prevent representatives from speaking in the House. He suggested that Parliament should make it clear if representatives can live in the House but are not allowed to speak, and if institutions exist, they should be accessible to all, not just select individuals.
On the topic of security, he mentioned that conditions were stable until yesterday but questioned what changed overnight.
