SRINAGAR: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a parallel assembly on the lawns of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Friday after its legislators were either marshalled out or walked out in protest, demanding the rollback of a resolution on special status.
BJP MLA Sham Lal Sharma acted as Speaker, presiding over discussions where members voiced their opposition to the resolution.
“The way our honourable members were marshalled out is hooliganism. We had high expectations of the Speaker due to his experience, but the treatment we received was unfortunate,” said Pavan Gupta, a BJP MLA, as he condemned the events within the House.
He added that the people in Kashmir are content due to the peaceful situation following the revocation of Article 370.
“This is the real assembly; let’s discuss public issues here,” remarked MLA RS Pathania.
Several other MLAs also spoke on the occasion.
BJP MLA Chander Prakash Ganga criticised those legislators who brought posters into the House, labelling them as separatists.
Notably, most BJP legislators were marshalled out after attempting to storm the well of the House, demanding a reversal of the resolution on Jammu and Kashmir’s special status. Subsequently, the BJP MLAs staged a walkout.
Almost 12 BJP MLAs were removed from the House.
Speaker Abdur Rahim Rather had instructed the marshals to prevent their re-entry into the House. (KNO)
