SRINAGAR: The cabinet, headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, approved amendments to the business rules of the Jammu & Kashmir Government on Wednesday.
Sources said that the cabinet convened at 8:00 PM to grant approval for changes to the business rules of the J&K government. “The proposal will now be sent to the Lieutenant Governor, who has the authority to notify them,” they said.
Under the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation Act-2019, the Lieutenant Governor is empowered to make rules, on the advice of the Council of Ministers, for the allocation of business to ministers and for the more efficient transaction of business with them. This includes outlining procedures to be followed in the event of a difference of opinion between the Lieutenant Governor and the Council of Ministers or a minister.
Following the reorganisation of Jammu & Kashmir, the Union Home Ministry notified the business rules for the J&K Union Territory on 27 August 2020.
The business rules were issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) under the powers conferred by Section 55 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, read with the Proclamation dated 31 October 2019, issued under Section 73 of the said Act. (KNO)
