SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday clarified that the proposed International Cricket Stadium at Bajalta in Jammu was never a project of the J and K government. Addressing the Legislative Assembly during the Question Hour, he stated that the proposal had been initiated by the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) but failed to materialise.
“The JKCA initiated the proposal for the cricket stadium, but it did not materialise. It was not a project of the J&K government,” the Chief Minister said while intervening in the discussion.
Earlier, responding to a question raised by MLA Sham Lal Sharma, Minister for Youth Services and Sports Satish Sharma also confirmed that there was no proposal from the Youth Services and Sports Department for the establishment of an International Cricket Stadium at Bajalta.
The Minister further informed the House that playfields were available in various schools within the Jammu East Constituency, where sports activities were regularly organised by the Youth Services and Sports Department. He listed several schools, including GGHSS Mubarakh Mandi, SRML Parade, GHSS Centre Basis, GHSS Hari Singh, GHSS Julakha Mohalla, GHS City Chowk, HSS Khana Chargal, HS Bain Bajalta, and HS Chak Largen, as venues where students actively participated in sports events throughout the year.
