SRINAGAR: A Selection Grade Constable of the Jammu and Kashmir Police has been dismissed from service after remaining absent from duty for more than two-and-a-half years without authorisation, officials said on Saturday.
According to police, Kathua Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohita Sharma ordered the dismissal of Selection Grade Constable Bachan Sharma, a resident of Dhaloti village in Marheen, who was posted at the District Police Lines (DPL), Kathua.
Police said the constable, who joined the force in 2011, had been marked absent from duty with effect from November 10, 2023. Despite repeated notices, wireless messages, summons issued through Police Station Rajbagh, show-cause notices and public notices published in leading newspapers, he failed to report back for duty.
A departmental inquiry found the official guilty of wilful and prolonged unauthorised absence exceeding two-and-a-half years, as well as gross disregard for departmental discipline, police said.
Taking a serious view of the misconduct, the SSP ordered his dismissal from service with effect from November 10, 2023, the date from which he was marked absent, officials said.
Police said the dismissed constable has also been directed to return all government property issued to him and obtain the requisite clearance certificate from the department, failing which legal action may be initiated against him.
