SRINAGAR: The ongoing cold wave tightened its grip on the Kashmir Valley, with Srinagar experiencing night temperature at -2.5°C. The tourist destination Pahalgam recorded an even colder -4.2°C, while Gulmarg, another tourist attraction, dropped to -7.0°C, making it one of the coldest places in the region.
Other areas in Kashmir also faced harsh conditions, with Sonamarg plunging to -7.7°C, Qazigund at -3.8°C, and Khudwani matching Pahalgam at -4.2°C. Larnoo saw -5.9°C, and Shopian recorded -5.6°C, while temperatures in Kokernag (-2.2°C), Kupwara (-1.9°C), and Bandipora (-2.0°C) reflected the severity of the cold.
In the Jammu region, comparatively milder conditions prevailed, though Banihal recorded 0.6°C and Bhaderwah -0.6°C. Padder remained exceptionally cold at -7.2°C. Jammu city stayed warmer at 7.7°C, with other notable temperatures including Batote (3.5°C), Katra (8.0°C), and Ramban (6.1°C).
Ladakh bore the brunt of the cold wave, with Drass freezing at -17.1°C, Leh recording -11.0°C, and Kargil at -10.0°C, underscoring the region’s harsh winter conditions.
