SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir State Taxes Department (STD) on Saturday carried out simultaneous search and seizure operations at various locations across the Jammu division. The crackdown targeted taxpayers allegedly availing of fake and ineligible Input Tax Credit (ITC) through fraudulent means.
The department acted against malpractices such as invoice trading without actual supply of goods or services, generation of fake E-Way Bills without toll record movement, and fabrication of transactions showing vehicle movement outside Jammu and Kashmir despite no such activity within the Union Territory.
The large-scale operation was conducted under the direction of Commissioner, State Taxes J&K, P K Bhat, and supervised by Additional Commissioner Enforcement and Administration Jammu, Namrita Dogra. Thirteen enforcement teams were deployed to inspect business premises, scrutinise bill books, verify physical stock and detect discrepancies with the Goods and Services Tax (GST) law.
Officials conducted on-site verifications and cross-checked transaction data with toll and logistical records to uncover irregularities. The department asserted that the exercise aims to uphold transparency and fairness in the tax ecosystem.
Commissioner P K Bhat stated, “This inspection drive is a proactive step to protect public revenue and ensure fair practices among taxpayers. We are committed to taking stringent action against those found violating tax laws while supporting honest businesses.”
The STD has urged all taxpayers to maintain accurate records and comply with GST norms, warning that violations will attract penalties and legal action. Citizens have been encouraged to report suspected cases of tax evasion via official channels.
