Jammu to See Rs 16 Crore Projects for Air Quality Improvement Under NCAP

   

JAMMU: The Jammu Municipal Corporation will take up projects worth over Rs 16 crore in 2025–26 to improve air quality and develop green spaces in the city under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).

This was revealed at a review meeting chaired today by Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, who assessed the implementation of the district’s air quality action plan. The meeting was attended by the Commissioner JMC, Regional Director Pollution Control Committee, Additional Deputy Commissioner and Joint Commissioner JMC.

Officials informed that 14 road improvement works worth Rs 868.14 lakh and eight green space projects worth Rs 721.26 lakh have been planned. The road works include end-to-end pavement, laying of interlocking concrete tiles, and beautification of garbage-vulnerable points. The green projects involve landscaping and construction of strips along major roads.

During the review of ongoing initiatives for 2024–25, Kumar was told that interventions include road paving for dust control, mechanical sweeping, expansion of greenery, development of traffic corridors, and decongestion of junctions. Schools and colleges are also being involved in awareness campaigns under NCAP.

The Divisional Commissioner directed officials to ensure speedy tendering and timely execution of projects, stressing quality standards. He also instructed them to address waterlogging by creating proper drainage flow and constructing soaking pits along roads.
