SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested Kewal Krishan, a junior official of the Jammu Development Authority (JDA), while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000. The arrest was made following a well-planned trap laid by the Bureau after receiving a complaint from a resident of Ballian Domana, Jammu.
According to the ACB, the complainant alleged that the official had demanded Rs 20,000 in exchange for allowing further construction of a double-storey building. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB, which initiated a discreet verification process. The verification confirmed the demand for illegal gratification by the official.
Following this, the ACB registered FIR No. 14/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, at the ACB Police Station in Jammu.
A trap team led by a gazetted officer was constituted, and the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the first instalment of the bribe amounting to Rs 10,000. The trap was executed in the presence of independent witnesses, and the bribe money was recovered from the accused on the spot.
The accused was immediately arrested, and further searches are being carried out at his residence in Flore Haramkund Gajansoo, Tehsil Marh, District Jammu, in the presence of a magistrate and independent witnesses.
The ACB has said the investigation is ongoing.
