SRINAGAR: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said that hartals, protests, and stone pelting have ceased to exist in Jammu and Kashmir.

Shah, while addressing a virtual gathering from New Delhi after inaugurating 100 E-buses for Jammu highlighted the rise in infrastructure development, improved schooling, and overall progress in the region.

He said that stones have been replaced with the laptops in the hands of JK youth.

Union Minister remarked that JK is experiencing a new era of peace, prosperity, and development. He credited the active support of JK youth for the decline in hartals, protests, and stone pelting.

“Contrary to claims that changes would be detrimental after the abrogation of Article 370,  positive indicators, including a 70% reduction in terrorism, an 81% decrease in civilian killings, and a 48% drop in security forces’ casualties contributed in JK’s growth,” Shah said.

Shah said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership the establishment of the Panchayat Raj System in JK, with ongoing delimitation is being conducted to ensure proper reservation to the left-out sections.

Shah affirmed the government’s commitment to countering militant financing, sealing the properties of militants and their supporters, and banning several militant outfits. He concluded by stating that J&K’s youth has replaced stones with laptops, leading to peace dividends and the region’s progress towards peace and prosperity.
