SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory Boxing Championship concluded in Jammu on Monday, with the Kashmir division delivering a strong performance by securing 19 medals in the three-day competition, officials said.
The Kashmir contingent clinched three gold, five silver, and eleven bronze medals across multiple weight categories, reflecting growing participation and competitive strength in boxing across the region.
Boxing coach Farooq Khan said the achievement underscores the dedication and discipline of the athletes. “The results reflect consistent performance and hard work put in by our players,” he said.
The championship witnessed participation from boxers representing various districts of Jammu and Kashmir, making it a closely contested event with emerging talent on display.
Khan said the tournament served as an important platform for young athletes to gain exposure and showcase their skills at a higher competitive level. He added that the results highlight the steady rise of boxing in Kashmir, with increasing youth participation in the sport.
Officials said such tournaments are part of ongoing efforts to promote sports culture and identify promising talent across the Union Territory. They added that top performers would be encouraged to compete at national-level events.
The championship concluded with medal ceremonies and recognition of leading performers, marking another step in the development of boxing in the region.
