SRINAGAR: Intermittent spells of light to moderate rain and snow are expected at many places in Kashmir from March 12 to 14, while dry weather is likely from March 17 to 21, the Meteorological Department (MeT) said on Monday.
Even as Kashmir’s upper reaches received fresh snowfall and rains lashed the plains, the MeT predicted erratic weather conditions for the next six days, forecasting intermittent rain and snowfall till March 16.
Several areas, including Sadhna Top, Machil, Keran sector, Gulmarg, Gurez Valley, Razdan Top, Zojila Pass, Sonamarg, and other higher reaches, received fresh snowfall. Rains lashed the plains, including Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, causing temperatures to drop across the Valley.
“Peak activity, or the most rain and snow, is expected on March 13, 14, and 15. Some higher reaches may receive heavy snowfall as well,” said an independent weather forecaster.
In its advisory, the MeT has urged travellers, tourists, and transporters to follow administrative and traffic advisories. Farmers have been advised to suspend farm operations from March 10 to March 16. “Avoid steep and avalanche-prone areas,” the advisory reads.(KNO)
