SRINAGAR: Srinagar on Monday recorded the highest maximum temperature of the season as the mercury soared to 35.3 degrees Celsius, which is 5.3 degrees above normal, according to data compiled by Kashmir Weather.
The temperature was just 0.2 degrees short of last year’s highest maximum of 35.5°C, indicating a sharp rise in daytime heat across the Valley.
Most parts of Kashmir also witnessed temperatures well above normal. Qazigund recorded 33.8°C, which was 5.0°C above normal, while Kokernag also registered 32.9°C, 5.0°C above normal. The tourist resort of Gulmarg recorded 26.2°C, an impressive 5.2°C above normal, while Pahalgam settled at 29.0°C, 3.6°C above normal. Kupwara recorded a maximum of 32.7°C, 2.7°C above normal.
In the Jammu region, Jammu city recorded a maximum temperature of 36.9°C, which was 0.1°C below normal. Other stations also experienced above-normal temperatures, with Banihal recording 31.9°C (2.7°C above normal), Batote 29.3°C (1.4°C above normal), Bhaderwah 32.9°C (1.8°C above normal), and Katra 35.6°C (1.8°C above normal).
The above-normal temperatures across most parts of Jammu and Kashmir reflect the continuing spell of intense summer heat, with Srinagar recording its hottest day of the season so far.
