SRINAGAR: Srinagar has transformed into a hub of cultural exchange as it welcomes the World Craft Council’s (WCC) 60th Jubilee Celebration extension programme from November 25 to November 28, 2024. This event follows the recent jubilee celebrations held in New Delhi from November 21 to November 24.
The programme has drawn 15 international WCC delegates from Kuwait, Australia, France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Central Asia. They are joined by artisans worldwide, showcasing a diverse array of traditional crafts that highlight global heritage.
Organised by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, the event seeks to elevate the region’s artisanal traditions on the world stage. The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to preserving and promoting Jammu and Kashmir’s rich cultural legacy.
The delegates began their Srinagar visit with a Craft Safari through the historic lanes of the old city, immersing themselves in the intricate artistry and vibrant traditions of the region. They later participated in a meeting with local stakeholders and officials at the Government Arts Emporium, fostering discussions on collaboration and innovation in the craft sector.
The central events are set for November 26 and November 27 at the Sheri-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC). Highlights include expert panel discussions on the challenges and opportunities within the global craft industry, along with a lively craft bazaar where artisans will display and sell their creations.
An award ceremony, presided over by the Lieutenant Governor, will honour local artisans with the prestigious UT-Level Craft Awards, celebrating their contributions to the craft industry.
This celebration serves as a testament to Jammu and Kashmir’s timeless craftsmanship while positioning the region as a prominent global hub for artisanal excellence.
