On Sunday evening, a police van rushed to district Hospital Pulwama and dropped a dead body there.
After hospital staff took custody of the blood-dripping body, the hospital administration went into tizzy as the slain youth wasn’t carrying any identity card in his pocket.
The hospital administration geared up and called in local Bait-ul-Maal committee. “There was a cell phone with the dead body and the civil society people started contacting numbers saved in the cellphone,” Dr Ab Rashid Para, MS Pulwama Hospital told Kashmir Life. “We had no death case in the hospital till then. It was the first one.”
Local sources in Pulwama said that early that day, there were intense protests in Lassipora area. Forces had opened fire after police posts came under attack.
“The dead body had bullet injury in his abdomen,” Dr Para said, “and the civil society members succeeded in getting through one of the cell numbers.”
Kashmir is witnessing bloodbath since Saturday morning after militant commander Burhan Wani along with his two associates was killed by forces in Kokernag area of South Kashmir last Friday evening.
It was only after ascertaining the details from the other end of the phone that civil society members could identify the slain youth.
“It was chaos here,” Dr Para said, “after completing the legal formalities, we sent the dead body and a few civil society members accompanied it.”
The youth was identified as Jahangir Ahmad Pandit, s/o Gulzar Ahmad, r/o Mohanpora Trenz, Shopian. “He was killed by army posted at an RR Camp in Lassipora,” a local alleged.
Locals said that Jahangir was an eleventh class student. “Some ten years back,” said his neighbour, “army killed his grandfather.” The slain youth belonged to poor family.
