SRINAGAR: Kashmir lone tertiary care hospital for chest diseases is allegedly not providing adequate oxygen supply to the patients admitted in the hospital.

One of the patients informed Kashmir Life over phone that his father-in-law, a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patient was admitted in Chest Diseases Hospital (CDH) where he was put in intensive care unit (ICU) and doctors advised to keep him on 12 litres oxygen per hour.

“But we were surprised to know that this hospital provides just 0.45 litres of oxygen per hour to every patients, it doesn’t matter if the patient needs more oxygen,” said attendant Waheed. “If this is the situation in ICU, God saves the patients who are admitted in wards.”

For every patient admitted in CDH, before the treatment for COPD or asthma patients gets started the patient is put on oxygen. “But from last one year we are not able to provide oxygen more than 0.45 litres per hour. Otherwise the maximum limit for oxygen supply is 13 litres per hour,” said a hospital source wishing anonymity.

The medical superintendent CDH Dr Naveed Nazir could not be contacted. He is out of station. Medical superintendent SMHS, refused to talk on the issue. “I can’t talk on super specialty hospitals,” he said.
