SRINAGAR: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), one of India’s oldest chambers, held its 91st Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Hotel The Kabo, Wazir Bagh, Srinagar. The meeting, presided over by President Javid Ahmad Tenga, saw the participation of past presidents, executive committee members, and senior businessmen, reflecting the chamber’s wide membership.
During the AGM, Secretary General Faiz Ahmad Bakshi presented the Annual Administrative Report, detailing initiatives undertaken over the past year to support trade, industry, handicrafts, tourism, horticulture, MSMEs, and the goods and services sectors in Jammu and Kashmir. The house approved the Administrative Report, Auditor’s Report, the Statement of Income and Expenditure, and the 2025–26 Budget, signalling confidence in the chamber’s functioning and accountability.
A key agenda—the election of the Executive Committee for the 2025–27 term—was deferred following an order from the District Magistrate, Srinagar. The house unanimously passed a resolution extending the tenure of the current Executive Committee and office bearers until elections are conducted, ensuring continuity in representation and operations.
Members also approved the creation of an empowered committee to oversee the construction of the long-awaited Chamber House at Rajbagh, Srinagar, which is expected to provide a permanent institutional space for the chamber. The AGM honoured past presidents and senior members for their contributions, acknowledging their role in shaping KCCI’s legacy.
President Tenga emphasised unity and institutional strengthening despite electoral setbacks, highlighting the chamber’s ongoing advocacy for policy reforms, including GST reductions on handicrafts and essential goods, and the promotion of tourism and local industries. He assured members that all concerns raised would be actively pursued with government authorities.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks and recognition of the chamber’s enduring relevance as the primary representative of Kashmir’s business community.
