In a function presided by the Kashmir Editors Guild (KEG) Fayaz Ahmad Kaloo, a daily newspaper, Kashmir Vision, was re-launched on Thursday. Prof Khursheed Iqbal Andrabi, Vice Chancellor of University of Kashmir was guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Andrabi, according to statement said that Journalism should appeal to the minds and soul of a person. “Media should focus on the actual morality of the people of the region,” he suggested. “The media should include diverse opinion in the field,” he added.
Kashmir Life’s Managing Editor Masood Hussain in his address talked about various aspects of Media. He said that it is very difficult for a person to report its own conflict.
Hussain spoke about the emergence of media from the pre-1989 period when government was the only source of news and reporters had to toil hard to get access to the ‘commodity’ called news.
“Media is evolving and there are more challenges to the digital medium than print,” said Hussain.
Dr. Shujat Bhukari, editor in chief, Rising Kashmir while speaking on the occasion said that it is very unfortunate for the local media that it has to depend on the government advertisements for their survival.
He said that as the local media is focusing on the digital medium. “There is a still a lot of scope for the print media as well, he said.
“It is time for us not only to introspect ourselves but to contribute to the society as well,” Bhukari said.
In his welcome address Editor Kashmir Vision Shafat Kira said that “we believe in the dynamic approach to the profession of journalism”.
“We are obvious to the fact that media is changing and we ought to follow the trend,” he said.
Showkat Shafi, Deputy Director, Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance, DICA, University of Kashmir earlier while introducing the guests moderated the whole ceremony.
