SRINAGAR: The Kochi University of Technology (KUT) in Japan has announced its Special Scholarship Program (SSP) for international students for the academic year 2026. The fully funded scholarship offers outstanding students an opportunity to pursue cutting-edge research under the supervision of leading Japanese scholars.
The deadline to apply for the scholarship is October 17, 2025, and the duration of the programme is three years. Applicants must first secure consent from a professor supervising the selected research project prior to applying.
The scholarship includes complete exemption from all academic fees, including the 15,000 Yen entrance examination fee, 300,000 Yen enrolment fee, and 535,800 Yen in annual tuition for the entire duration. In addition, students will receive a generous monthly stipend of 150,000 Yen to cover living expenses, accommodation, and personal needs. A relocation allowance of 150,000 Yen will also be granted to support travel and initial settlement in Japan.
Selected students will benefit from professional research writing training by native English-speaking instructors, Japanese language classes, and cultural immersion activities to explore Japan’s traditions, history, and society.
KUT offers PhD programmes across a broad range of disciplines, including but not limited to Mechanical Engineering, Informatics, Data and Innovation, Intelligent Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Architecture and Infrastructure Design, Environmental Science, Electronic and Photonic Engineering, and Management Science.
To be eligible, candidates must be 35 years of age or younger, hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent 18 years of education) by the start of the doctoral programme, and demonstrate academic excellence and strong research potential. Proficiency in English is mandatory, and prior research experience will be considered a strong asset.
Applicants must submit a range of documents, including a confirmation email from the supervising professor, official application forms, academic transcripts, English proficiency certificates, two letters of recommendation, a well-structured research proposal, and other supporting materials.
