SRINAGAR

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah refused point blank offering the initial findings of the investigations in the Kot Bhalwal attack case in which a Pakistani convict was seriously injured. He, however, termed it extremely unfortunate.

“It (the incident) was extremely unfortunate especially because the Minister of Home had issued an advisory to the prisons department to take care of the prisons where Indian and Pakistani prisoners are lodged together,” Omar Abdullah told a news conference on the first day of opening of Durbar in Srinagar. “After the incident certain steps were taken.”

However, Omar refused point blank offering the initial findings of the investigations carried out by the state home secretary. He said he does not want to repeat what had happened in Shopian case in which his statement was taken the final verdict in the twin deaths of young women. He said the investigations into the jail attack are being carried out transparently. Omar said the probe is time bound.

Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah Haq who was injured in the attack by a fellow convict Vinod Kumar was flown to PGI Chandigarh where he is reported to be in deep coma. New Delhi has already granted counselor access to Pakistani High Commission to him. At the state level, the state government has suspended the services of a number of jail staffers including the Jail Superintendent Mrs Rajni Sehgal.
