SRINAGAR: In a significant political move, the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) have announced plans for a joint sitting after Eid to deliberate on various issues, including the possibility of fielding a consensus candidate for the Ladakh Lok Sabha seat. This development comes amidst the absence of candidate announcements from major political parties like the BJP and Congress, reports appearing in the media suggest.

The LAB, representing Leh district, and KDA, representing Kargil district, are spearheading agitation for Statehood and Sixth Schedule status.

LAB co-chairman Chering Dorjay Lakruk has confirmed to the media that the joint meeting will take place post-Eid, with the venue yet to be decided. Discussions are expected to revolve around potential candidates for the Ladakh Lok Sabha seat, although the feasibility of fielding a joint candidate remains uncertain.

Notably, the BJP and Congress, which have held sway over the Ladakh Parliamentary constituency in previous terms, are yet to announce their candidates. The BJP, considering names like Jamyang Tsering Namgyal and Tashi Gyalson, maintains that no decision has been made. Similarly, the Congress is deliberating over potential candidates, with UT chief Nawang Rigzin Jora being a frontrunner. NC and Congress have decided that a Congress candidate will be fielded from Ladakh and NC will support the move.
